South Florida Bass Fishing Club  Fishing Hydrilla

Hydrilla is a fast growing plant and grows in huge mats. Bass tend to hang out there when the weather starts to warm up. It will grow right to the surface, look closely and you will see pockets that range from 1 to 5 feet or more. These pockets go right to the bottom and the sun can penetrate these areas which mean Bass will explode on lures tossed in these areas. Be carefull on lure selection as the Bass will bury you in this plant leaving you with a ton of Hydrilla to dig your lure out of!

Fishing Lotus Pads

Bass will frequent lotus pads (aka lily pads) after a cold front. The bottom is mucky where pads grow, and retains heat a little better. If a cold front passes by, fishing pads with June bug colored crawfish, black-green crawfish down in the roots may work. Otherwise, pads don't seem to hold many bass as some of the other vegetation.

Fishing Kissimmee Grass
Kissimmee Grass growes in 2 to 4 feet of water, and durning spawning season can hold a lot of Bass. Kissimmee Grass can be fished with a varity of baits.

Fishing the SawGrass/Reeds
Reeds grow in clumps among the Kissimee grass and Arrowhead. Pay careful attention to the matted areas. These are areas where the sawgrass has fallen over and is providing a mixed surface for a bass to hide under. Bass lurk all in around the reeds. Reeds are in two categories. Sawgrass, which look like cattails, and buggy whips, which are thinner and much less matted. Sawgrass is thicker and often makes a nearly impenetrable wall along the shorelines and islands. Both hold plenty of bass and other creatures.
